ARTEMIS, project within the Interreg Euro-MED mission Natural Heritage, aims to accelerate the restoration of Mediterranean seagrass meadows, by integrating the financial and societal benefits of seagrass ecosystem services into relevant public and private policies.
The project fosters collaboration among local and transnational stakeholders, leveraging innovative solutions for biodiversity conservation and sustainable marine management. Key outputs include the application of advanced restoration protocols in several pilot sites across Mediterranean countries, enhancing biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and resilience against climate change.
Goals:
>> Delivery of 4 seagrass restoration pilots
>> with €2M additional funding secured through Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES)
>> guiding the replication of results to 10 larger restoration projects of >5 hectares worth €50M at project end.
