The East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) was established by the East African Community (EAC) and mandated by the Council of Ministers to promote renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) in the region.
EACREEE´s goal is to facilitate the creation of an enabling environment for renewable energy and energy efficiency markets and investments thus contribute to; (a) Increased access of modern, affordable and reliable energy services, (b) Energy security and (c) Mitigation of negative effects of energy use on the environment and population (e.g. local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions).
To achieve these goals, EACREEE focuses on five thematic areas of intervention for promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency. These include.

– Creation of awareness and Capacity Building
– Promotion of investment and lobbying
– Research, development, and innovation
– Knowledge management
