NATURE-DEMO is a Horizon Europe project that will create, validate, scale, and sustain Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate resilience and proofing vulnerable infrastructure. NATURE-DEMO will catalog and analyze NbS relevant to protecting different infrastructures. Each solution will be parameterized for direct integration into digital tools. A novel climate risk modeling framework will quantify nature-based approaches’ adaptation pathways and risk reduction potentials.
Our digitally-enabled NbS methodology will be validated through real-world cases. NATURE-DEMO will implement a suite of green, blue, and hybrid NbS at a large scale across five regions within the Alpine biogeographic area, addressing multiple climate hazards. The integrated application for flood, erosion, landslide, and wildfire risk reduction will advance beyond current fragmented demonstrations.
Our Partnership includes three industrial partners, nine academic organizations, four research organizations, four non-profits, and two national authorities. Together, NATURE-DEMO will collaborate with authorities and infrastructure owners to advance and demonstrate NbS at scale, generating robust datasets, and integrating NbS within system models. NATURE-DEMO will accelerate the mainstreaming of nature-based approaches as a core climate adaptation strategy for more resilient European Infrastructure.
