Southern Oil Group is the largest recycler of waste oils in Australia. In partnership with JJ’s Waste & Recycling, Southern Oil receives over 150 million litres of waste oil each year from almost every sector of the economy, from local mechanics to manufacturing plants, ports, defence sites, power generation, farms, mines, and many others.
Once collected, it is aggregated for testing and primary processing, then transported to one of two advanced re-refineries in Gladstone, Queensland, and Wagga Wagga, NSW, to be recycled and re-refined into like-new products.
Among these products are recycled fuels, bitumen/asphalt inputs, and base lubricant oils for use in engines, hydraulic systems, pumps and turbines. All of these recycled hydrocarbon products displace crude oil derived alternatives.
Southern Oil’s recycling processes create zero-waste products with significant environmental, economic, and social benefits over imported crude oil derived products. Recycling oil for reuse in Australia also offers supply chain security for a critical resource: lubricant oils keep machinery moving, vital for every aspect of the economy, including transport, resources, agriculture, and energy production.
Finally, ensuring that waste oil is safety captured for recycling and reuse prevents its release into the environment, where it would contaminate land, air and water.
