The Global Carbon Pricing Challenge (GCPC) was announced by Canada during COP26, challenging the global community to cover 60% of global GHG emissions by explicit carbon pricing systems by 2030. Since then, it has grown into an international leader-level initiative, steered by a growing number of jurisdictions: Partners that have implemented or are scheduled to implement carbon pricing systems; and Friends that have a clear interest in explicit carbon pricing domestically or internationally. The GCPC is led by an Advisory Committee of representatives from Partner countries and is currently chaired by Canada’s Ambassador for Climate Change, Catherine Stewart. Decisions of the Advisory Committee are informed by the analysis and advice of a Technical Working Group of global experts from Partners, Friends, and international organizations. It is supported by an independent Secretariat staffed by climate policy and communications experts from adelphi and IETA.
