“Where Innovation Meets Impact”
AfrII is a leading non-profit research and development organisation based in Uganda, committed to improving rural livelihoods through science, innovation, and inclusive development. Established in 2005, AfrII works at the intersection of agriculture, climate resilience, food security, and environmental sustainability, with a strong focus on empowering smallholder farmers across Eastern and Central Africa.
AfrII bridges the gap between research and real-world application by generating and promoting innovations that enhance productivity, build resilience to climate change, and support ecosystem restoration. Our work is grounded in data-driven solutions, participatory approaches, and strong collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, civil society, and international development partners.
We lead and co-implement nationally recognized initiatives such as the Vital Signs Monitoring System, which has provided Uganda’s first ecosystem services atlas; the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT I & II), supporting national greenhouse gas inventory systems; and the Global Shea Landscape Project, which empowers women’s cooperatives and restores biodiversity in Uganda’s Shea belt.
AfrII’s work is supported by partners including the Ministry of Water and Environment, Conservation International, Global Environment Facility (GEF), and others. Our areas of focus include:
Climate-smart agriculture and land restoration
Food systems and value chain development
GHG monitoring, MRV systems, and climate transparency
Gender and youth inclusion in sustainable development
With operations anchored in Uganda and collaborations across the region, AfrII remains committed to building resilient communities, strengthening institutions, and delivering impactful, scalable solutions for Africa’s sustainable future.
