Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are approaches to protecting, restoring or managing ecosystems that effectively address a range of societal challenges and have positive social, environmental, economic and biodiversity impacts.
France conducts high-level research on biodiversity, but lacks a well-structured research community to meet the challenges of NbS. The french national research program on Nature-based Solutions therefore aims to foster the development of innovative and ambitious research on NbS as a systemic approach.
Co-led by CNRS and INRAE, the research program aims to promote scientific approaches to the design, implementation and evaluation of NbS. It also aims to foster the emergence of a new economic sector with strong social and environmental benefits.
The french national research program is funded by the France 2030 investment plan over a 9-year period (2023-2032). It is being developed in close collaboration with the national public research community and a large number of stakeholders.
